PARK INFORMATION

 ~ HOURS OF OPERATION ~
Open Year Round - Sunrise to Sunset

Office Hours - 7:00AM to 3:30PM

 ~ PARKING ~
In the summer all park roads are open and you can leave your car pretty much anywhere as long as it's off the road. During the winter, when the Les Pawson Loop and *** road are closed, the best parking area to use is the one located just inside the Twin River Rd. park entrance.

 ~ BOULDERING ESSENTIALS ~
Using a crashpad at The Woods is generally a good idea, though there are some ares where the landing is flat enough to boulder without one. Chalk is allowed, and used by most locals, though in colder seasons the friction is so good that you could climb without it. Tape is a must, as the sharp holds have a tendency to wear your skin down quickly. Brushes are a also a good idea as holds on classic problems can be pretty caked with chalk, and those on the not-so-classic-problems are quickly reclaimed by litchen. In the winter bring food and water as there is none available within the park.

 ~ PARK DESCRIPTION ~
Lincoln Woods state park contains 627 acres of lush woodlands scattred with countless boulders and small cliffs. The rock is primarilly glaciated granite with periodic quartz and diorite intrusions (there are also small amounts of greenstone and marble). The rock has a very rough texture and is notorious for it's razor sharp crimpers. Most problems are relatively short - rarely over 12ft - and like any area their quality ranges from three star to "why bother". Rest assured, though, there are many problems in the three star category. In addition to bouldering there are 10 miles of rugged hiking trails, a large pond with boating, fishing and a beautiul beach area, and even Horseback outings provided for a fee by a local stable. The Park is open year round and is located only a short distance from the Providence Metropolitan Area.

 ~ PARK HISTORY ~
The land which is now know ad Lincon Woods State Park was purchased by the RI Metropolitan Park Commission of donated from 1908 to 1933. Lincoln Woods State Park was officially named on February 12, 1909 in commenoration of the one hundredth birthday of Abrahan Lincoln.
